Pallet Love

I'm slightly obsessed with pallets.

But what's not to love? They're not only awesome looking, they're free! So when I passed by a dumpster and saw a pallet hanging over the edge, I couldn't help myself. Ignoring the weird stares passers-by were giving me, I managed to get it out and cart it home. I tried climbing up the side of the dumpster to rescue a second pallet, but couldn't reach it. The dumpster's gone now and I'm still a little sad about the pallet left behind.

I've been pinning a few ideas for projects using pallets and am so excited to actually have a pallet to use now!

I'm in love with this hanging shelf, but my pallet is configured differently, so this one's out. For now...

This bookshelf is amazing, but also out. I'm going to need to find bigger pallets and gain the ability to use power tools before I can pull that one off.

And we have a winner.

I've finally decided to turn my pallet into a headboard. My poor bed is currently nothing more than a mattress set on a metal bed frame, so this is the perfect solution. The colors of my room are similar to this picture and I love the natural look of the pallet with them. I'm so excited!

This is definitely a DIY project I can actually accomplish. Now it's simply a matter of waiting for the temperature in the garage to go below 110º so I can start sanding!

So keep your eyes on the dumpsters. You never know what inspiration you might find!

Labor Day

Happy Labor Day weekend!

I hope everyone is taking time out of their busy schedule to relax and enjoy family and friends.    I had to work Saturday, but plan on staying close to home for the rest of the holiday weekend puttering around with a few projects and spending time with my family.  With that being said,  there will be no Amaze Me Monday blog party this week.

Dittle Dattle

Be safe and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I will be back tomorrow night with a giveaway!

Pinecone Candle Holder

I wasn't going to craft today but after my daughter brought home some pinecones from the park, I had to make something with it! lol! Another decor for my soon to be Fall display!

 Material
pinecones, spray paint, the bottom of a soda can, glue gun and scissors

 Spray paint the pine cones

After it dries, cut the top of the pine cone and spray paint again.
Cut the button of a soda can and trim around it.

Glue the aluminium circle to the pine cone.

You are done!

PB Console Table Knock Off

And the outdoor furniture building continues…..

DIY-Pottery-Barn-Console-Table

I decided I need an outdoor console table when the other night I was out cooking on the grill and I simply didn’t have enough room to sit down all my ingredients.   Don’t you just hate not having enough workspace?

Well wouldn’t you know it, looking though the Pottery Barn catalog, they have a couple of outdoor console tables (with their shocking price tags) that would work perfectly on our deck.

I like the simplicity of the Chesapeake table but I just love the look of the smaller vertical slats of the Faraday table.  Playing around with Google sketch-up I was able to combine the best of the each and make the perfect table for myself.

I am still using up the wood from my parents old deck, but I did have to buy a couple boards to make this table.  While at Home Depot, I priced out the wood for the entire project and it would cost less than $25 to make!!  That is a savings of $275!

I debated whether to add a fancy leg or even casters wheels, but I am completely happy with the way it turned out.

The Hubby came home when I was in the middle of staining the table and I had to ask him what he thought….. He asked, “You made me a new workbench?”   Ummm,  Yeah.  Sure if you consider the grill as a part of you workspace!  (that’s him trying to be funny because a few years ago I made myself a gardening bench and some how he ended up taking it and using it as a workbench in the garage!)

The stain is from Sherwin William’s Deckscape.

EDIT:   The stain from SW is called Woodscapes.

I love my little fishy.  I have had him a few years now.  The little silver star plate is new.

Don’t you agree the small vertical slats give the piece much more interest?

The wooden cake plate was hand-crafted by my Dad.  (you must check out the cute new cupcake stands he just added to his Etsy store.  Adorable!!)

This table is going to be perfect when the Hubs is cooking out on the grill or even when creating an outdoor buffet!  And when not in use…. it looks great with a few outdoor accessories.

Life Lessons

I've learned a lot of valuable life lessons over the past couple of weeks.

Well, maybe they're not really valuable. And sure, most aren't lessons about life. In reality, it's just a list of random things that have somehow managed to stick in my mind these past couple of weeks, while everything of any importance went flying away.

  1. While mincing jalepeños, wear super thick safety goggles. The occasional squirt of jalepeño juice in the eye really burns. (I need some safety goggles by the way)

  2. A cleaver is probably not the best way to remove meat from lobster claws. Effective, yes. Messy and potentially dangerous, also a yes! (I had 10 fingers at last count, no worries!)

  3. Shrimp should not have heads. (I don't like my food looking at me as I try to eat it.)

  4. I'll spare the gory details, but let me just say I can never eat soft-shell crabs. (Ever.)

  5. When someone asks you to prep for steak sauce before you leave for the day, say no. It involves peeling and slicing 100 pounds of onions, among other things. (The onions didn't make me want to cry, but the painful blister on my knife finger did!)

  6. If while filling up your car, the pump spills gasoline on your hand, leaving you smelling like a gas station, a little garlic and anchovies will get rid of the smell right away! (Of course, then you smell like garlic and anchovies...)

  7. People will stare at you when you raid a dumpster for the super cool pallets inside. Just ignore them. (Pallets - Woohoo!)

I've been neglecting blogging - both posting and reading/commenting. Thankfully I'm getting into the swing of work and homeschool, so I'll be back more regularly. Keep an eye out for an upcoming review of some beautiful and "precious" jewelry soon! (That was a really lame hint!)

I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend!

Five Feature Friday #7!

Are you all as ready for your long weekend as I am? I wish every weekend was a long weekend!!

I've got all kinds of fun projects for this week!!

Julie from The Painted Parlor just finished this awesome vintage table!! I love her spin on the chevron pattern! The distressing and style of this table rock!

The Lovely Cupboard made over her classroom! You don't see many classrooms as awesome as this one! I would almost consider going back to school so I could hang out in this room all day - almost!

These DIY bunk beds from The Stucco Bungalow are pretty friggin awesome! The color on that wall is perfect! I love every last detail in this room - what a great DIY project!!

Creative Cain Cabin did a fabulous makeover on this chunky coffee table! Don't you love the color combo and distressing - and who can resist those chunky legs?!

I saved my personal favorite for last! I know, I know! It's rude to have a personal favorite, but I can't help it!  I'm participating in my first craft swab with Bonnie from Pink Stitches!  Yeah, I'm sure you've heard about her! LOL! We've done giveaways together and had all kinds of blog fun! I got my goodies from her today and could NOT be more pleased! She is so awesome!  She made me a pillow cover (read here for her sweet story behind the pillow) and a checkbook wallet! Both with cute birdies! Yes, please!!  I stole all of these pictures off of her blog, but once the pillow gets settled into it's new home you'll be seeing more pictures! I just mailed her first package of goodies yesterday, so I can't reveal those until she gets them!

Feel free to grab a button if you were featured!

CRAPTASTIC

Cheers!

Recycle - TP pencil/scissors holders

LOVE, LOVE this project!
If you follow my blog, you know by now that I love to recycle things!
It is so much fun to make something out of nothing! I am reorganizing my craft room and trying to make my containers out of recycled items.
So, what you do with TP roll, cardboard box and scrap fabric?
You make this:

Material
TP rolls, cardboard box, fabric and hot glue gun

Glue the fabric around your cardboard box.

Glue the fabric around you TP roll.

Glue the TP rolls to the box and you are done! How simple is that?

This is how it looks in my soon to be craft room!
Take a sneak peak of what I have done so far and let me know what you thing! :)
