At home with Jesper and Majbritt

Black and white heaven. This is how I would describe this Østerbro, Denmark, apartment. Thanks to a calming monochrome palette, Jesper and Majbritt carefully chose furniture one after the other to furnish this refuge for the senses. Because they work with color in their everyday job, they chose a calming black and white palette, and to keep the calming and minimalist feel, their rule is "if a piece comes in, another must go." I may adopt this strategy!

Un paradis en noir et blanc. C'est ainsi que je décrirais cet appartement situé à Østerbro, au Danemark. Sur une palette monochromatique, Jesper et Majbritt ont choisi avec minutie chaque meuble pour créer un "refuge des sens". Parce qu'ils travaillent avec de la couleur dans leur métier, ils ont délibérément choisi une palette monochromatique, et pour garder l'esprit minimaliste de leur appartement, leur règle d'or est : "si un meuble est rajouté, alors un autre doit partir." Quelle bonne idée à piquer!

Rustic meets modern in France

When Françoise bought a lot in Castelmoron-sur-Lot, in the French Lot-et-Garonne region, the idea was to build a modern and minimalist house made of glass and wood. But the city council refused the original plan, considered too "brave" and audacious for the area. So Françoise and her architects had to compromise and build a home that would fit more with its surroundings and be more rustic. This is the result of such compromise. Then, Françoise asked the help of Stéphane Quatresous, interior designer and owner of the fab' French vintage store Atelier 154. Ah, rustic, modern, industrial, and vintage eclectic all at once. This space is pure bliss.

Quand Françoise a acquis un terrain dans la commune de Castelmoron-sur-Lot dans le département de Lot-et-Garonne, son idée était de construire une maison moderne et minimaliste faite de bois et de verre. Mais le conseil municipal refusa son projet, considéré comme trop "audacieux"et pas en phase avec les règles d'urbanisme local. Alors Françoise et ses architectes ont du faire des compromis et construire une maison plus en phase avec son environnement. Ceci est le résultat d'un tel compromis. Pour ne rien gâcher, Françoise a fait appel à Stéphane Quatresous, décorateur et  propriétaire de la boutique Atelier 154. Ah, du rustique, du moderne, de l'industriel et du vintage réunis dans un seul et même espace... tout simplement magnifique.

This is the Copenhagen apartment of Tanja Vibe, the owner of Danish-Swedish graphic design studio All the way to Paris. Furnished with iconic design pieces, Tanja's flat is stylish and comfortable. Oh, and incredibly authentic and inviting.

Voici l'interieur de Tanja Vibe, co-fondatrice et dirigeante du studio graphique danois-suédois All the Way to Paris. Meublé de pièces iconiques du design, cet appartement, situé en plein centre de Copenhague, est plein de style et super cosy. Oh, et incroyablement authentique et convivial.

Houseboat living in Paris

Valérie lives in the heart of Paris. No, not in a loft, not in an apartment either... nor in a house. Valérie is the proud resident of a very cleverly redesigned, 100-year-old barge on the Seine River. Oh, bliss, bohemian bliss, it is!

Valérie habite au coeur de Paris. Non, pas dans un loft, un appartement ou même une maison. Valérie habite une péniche vieille de 100 ans, et superbement agencée sur les bords de Seine. Le bonheur bohème, quoi!

While browsing through the beautiful portfolio of talented photographer Kasia Gatkowska, I came across this loft with a strong industrial raw vibe and stared at all its details for quite a long time. I am loving the dark mood, very masculine, the perfectly imperfect mood that reigns in this space and its strong personality.

En parcourant le portfolio de la photographe Kasia Gatkowska, je suis tombée sur ce sublime loft à l'ambiance brute et masculine, et ai passé plusieurs minutes à scruter chaque détail de chaque image. J'aime tous ces coloris sombres, masculins, la perfection dans l'imperfection que cet espace évoque et sa forte personnalité.

Weekend + an amazing week wrap up

What an amazing week this has been! If you missed the fun, then you missed me on the fabulous Sfgirlbybay blog where I will, from now on, be a regular contributor and present unique house tours under a series called "I could live here". 

Another great moment of this week was the feature of my house on the design*sponge website. You can still come visit me here. Lastly, In-style magazine mentioned the FrenchByDesign Pinterest feed in their "must-hit" website feature. To tell you the truth, it either feels like a dream - and don't you dare pinching me because I really don't want to wake up - or Christmas in November.

Quelle incroyable semaine! Si vous avez raté des épisodes, alors vous avez raté celui où je suis désormais contributrice régulière du superbe blog de Victoria Smith, Sfgirlbybay. J'y présenterai 2 fois par mois des intérieurs des 4 coins du monde qui ont fait chavirer mon coeur, dans la série intitulée "I could live here" [trad. 'j'habiterais bien ici']. Un autre grand moment de cette semaine, c'est la visite virtuelle de ma maison sur l'énorme site américain design*sponge. Passez donc me voir et entrez sans sonner, c'est par ici...
Enfin, le grand magazine américain In-style Magazine a mentionné le compte Pinterest FrenchByDesign comme un incontournable et un "must" dans la déco industrielle et scandinave.
A vous dire vrai, j'ai l'impression d'être dans un rêve - et ne vous avisez pas de me pincer ou de me réveiller parce que c'est trop bon - ou de fêter Noël en Novembre...

House Tour : Anne, Jean-François + 2

Anne, a textile designer and owner of La Cerise sur le Gâteau shop lives in this flat in the Paris rooftops with her companion, Jean-François and their kids, Violette and Louise. Using white as a backdrop, Anne adds color in her space every time she can to give life and catch the eye. This flat is happy, and it shows!

Anne, créatrice de la marque française de linge de maison La Cerise sur le Gâteau, son companion Jean-Francois et leurs filles Violette et Louise, vivent dans cet appartement accroché sous les toits de Paris. Utilisant le blanc comme couleur de fond, Anne a rajouté des touches de couleur ici et là pour donner de la vie à ce lieu. Cet appartement est vivant et "heureux", et ça se sent!

Spotted on the latest Elle Decoration UK this modern nomad Danish house exhibits a colorful and unique mix of global finds. Call it ethnic chic, perfect/imperfect style at its best. I love this space!

Déniché dans le dernier Elle Décoration anglais, cet intérieur danois qui mélange avec brio de la couleur et des pièces ethniques venues des 4 coins de la planète... Le comble de l'ethnique chic et du style brut "imparfait". J'aime cet espace!

House Tour : Florence, Sébastien and Gaspard

Florence, founder of Petite Maman, an NPO aiming at helping mothers and young children in need, her companion Sébastien and their son Gaspard, live in this Parisian Marais quarter flat. I am loving the spirit of this interior, with handpicked flea markets finds, original art prints and its exposed brick wall. You can tell this family did not follow a "by the book" recipe to furnish their home, and as a result, their flat exhibits a real fresh and unique style. J'aime!

Florence, fondatrice de l'association Petite Maman, une association aidant les femmes et les enfants suivis par le Secours Populaire, son compagnon Sébastien et leur petit Gaspard, vivent dans cet appartement situé dans le quartier du Marais à Paris. J'aime l'esprit des lieux, avec ces pièces de mobilier chinées, ces oeuvres d'art originales, et ce mur de briques exposées... On voit clairement que cette famille n'a pas suivi de recette "catalogue" précise pour meubler son nid, et cet appartement a un style unique, harmonieux et original. J'aime!
